Europe Windstorm Loss History, 1940-2023

How long is a stable baseline climate of losses? Europe Windstorm has such a thick tail that 3 or 4 decades is not enough to place the very stormy 1980s and 90s in proper context.
A windstorm loss history was developed for the extended period 1940 to 2023 using ERA5 reanalyses winds with some processing. It was validated using known industry losses over the past few decades. The dataset provides new storm losses for validation, or a little light processing can give insights into climate variability. For example, the loss climate based on the past 50 years is not stable: the full 84 years has 20% lower average loss.
